An animal sanctuary welcomed guests through its doors for the final time this year at the weekend before the cold weather bites.

Banwell’s Avon Owls, in Whitley Head, hosted its last open day of 2018 on Sunday, giving animal lovers the chance to get up close and personal with a range of birds.

Some new arrivals to the sanctuary were on show at the open day, including spectacled and great grey owls which certainly caught the eye of people in attendance.

The event featured plenty of Halloween activities for youngsters, who learned more about Avon Owls wide selection of birds of prey thanks to the charity’s team of expert handlers.

The charity, which is home to more than 40 birds, rescues and rehabilitates birds but it has outgrown its site and is fundraising for a new home.
