VILLAGERS in Banwell will soon benefit from up to £8,000 of new CCTV equipment.

VILLAGERS in Banwell will soon benefit from up to £8,000 of new CCTV equipment.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary is willing to provide up to £4,000 of matched funding for new cameras in West Street car park.

Current CCTV coverage uses cameras that alter their line of sight at different time intervals, which means areas of the car park are not covered at all times.

The new equipment will be co-funded by Banwell Parish Council, which approved the move at a meeting last week.

Parish councillor Graham Found said: "This will mean people can leave their cars there at night without worrying if they will be vandalised."

The council will now source quotes and a proposal for the new equipment will be drafted and sent to the police for approval.
