A WESTON bar has been allowed to open longer over the bank holiday, despite concerns from police about the amount of crime that has occurred there.
Dragon Kiss, in Regent Street, will be able to stay open until 4am this weekend – two hours longer than normal – following a ruling by North Somerset Council on Tuesday.
Avon and Somerset Constabulary raised some concern with the proposed extension of opening hours, however did not object.
Andrew Manhire, police licensing officer, said: “In the past there it has been a location for a high number of crime and disorder offences.
“Whilst in recent months the premise has demonstrated a marked improvement in the area, in recent weeks there have been three quite serious assaults connected with the establishment.”
However the council gave the bar the go-ahead although insisted on certain conditions to ensure public safety, such as no re-entry during the last 30 minutes.
