Burnham-on-Sea Coastguard Rescue team was called out to assist with the incident during the bank holiday weekend.

The water had tripped the electrics, deployed the air bags and the fog lights were on.

The driver had gone for a walk along Brean Down, but had not realised the tide would come back in so far.

The rescue team waited for the tide to recede before members of BARB Search & Rescue hovercraft winched it to the concrete ramp above the next high tide mark.

It was recovered by Weston Recovery Services and taken back to the hire company.

Burnham Coastguard Rescue Team has released the video to highlight the importance of beach safety.

People are encouraged to take notice of the signs at the entrance to the beach which give details about high tide and what time to leave the beach.

If the times are not displayed, ask a beach warden, and for emergencies call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
