A WELSH entrepreneur is inviting businesses and members of the public to support plans to build a multi-billion pound Severn Barrage.Gareth Woodham is asking people who would be interested in a share offer in the project to come forward. The barrage, which could be built between Brean Down and Lavernock Point in Wales, could cost up to £14billion. Mr Woodham said: "This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to get involved in an exciting project."Last week, the Weston & Somerset Mercury reported that Prime Minister Tony Blair had backed Severn Barrage plans during question time in the House of Commons. Mr Blair told MPs he supported the scheme and confirmed he would continue to look into a way of doing it cost-effectively. In a recent online poll by prospective MP for Weston, Mike Bell, 84 per cent of residents said they would be in favour of the barrage scheme. An online petition to stop the barrage has been met with limited enthusiasm. Only 10 people have signed the 'stop barrage' campaign, which was launched by a member of the public on the Downing Street website earlier this month.
