A FATHER-of-two is braving this month's Brean Stages Rally despite losing both his legs in a motorway crash. Weston Motor Club member Barry Pavey, aged 47, was fitted with artificial limbs after his accident in November 2005. The lorry he was driving was involved in a collision on the M5 motorway. After four major operations in Kent and Taunton, Barry was fitted with prosthetic legs.Barry said: "I had to stay positive. Things could have been much worse. My family was very supportive the whole time."Barry had to learn to walk with his new limbs, which took 18 months. He said: "It wasn't too bad learning to use them. It was like starting all over again really. Luckily my specialists were excellent."Just eight weeks after starting to walk again, Barry was assessed for his driving licence and on January 1 he got his rally licence back.He said: "I heard I was getting my rally licence back just before Christmas, so that was an early present. Now I'm just looking forward to the Brean race."Barry, who lives in Bridgwater, will be driving his Mark II Escort at the Brean Stages Rally on January 27 and 28 at Brean Leisure Park.
