A BRIDE and groom who chose to have a wedding blessing on Weston beach say 'an act of God' saved their special day from being ruined. As Sue Swift and Ray Steger prepared for the ceremony, they received a phone call from the vicar saying his car had broken down and he was going to be late. Sue said: "The blessing should have been three o'clock but Reverend Hammond called in advance to say he had broken down. As time went on we were worried about the tide reaching us."Then a waitress from the Mentone Hotel, Lisa Rogers, said she knew a minister staying there and spotted him sitting on the beach wall. He said he would conduct the ceremony."It was an act of God that the minister was there."Ray and Sue, who run a pub in Cheltenham, often visit Weston on holiday.Sue, aged 51, said: "Ray and I always come to Weston so that's why we chose the beach.
