Two beach huts, similar to those on Weston seafront, have appeared in one of the town’s parks – but they have not been misplaced.

Some eagle-eyed members of the public took to social media when they spotted the huts in Clarence Park to discuss why they were there.

There were several theories as to why the huts were left in the park – for temporary storage, for repairs or as part of a plan to relocate the huts.

North Somerset Council revealed the huts were used for demonstration purposes during the public consultation period in 2014, but have since been unused.

Instead of throwing them away, the council decided to recycle the huts and use them as sheds.

A spokesman for the council said: “These are the two huts we purchased in 2014 as demo huts.

“They are not the same specification as those being used on the seafront now and to make sure they are put to good use we will be moving them into the compound in the park when an area has been cleared.

“They will be used for growing seeds and other gardening-related activities.”
