A POLICE beat area could be split because one parish feels its crime statistics are being made worse by another parish in the area.At present Banwell and St Georges are included in the same police beat area. But Banwell Parish Council has been pushing for Avon and Somerset Constabulary to realign the boundaries because it says the number of crimes taking place in St Georges are making the statistics for the overall area appear bad.Banwell Parish Council clerk Jo Duffy said: "The council has been pushing for the change because it felt the St George's area was skewing the crime statistics for Banwell."St Georges Parish council chairman John Warren said: "I'm told that whatever the decision St Georges', police coverage will remain the same."I find it difficult to believe St Georges is more of a crime ridden area than Banwell but I'm not worried about any statistics, just so long as the coverage continues."What did bother the council was no one from either the police or Banwell Parish Council contacted us to say this could happen."Avon and Somerset police Supt Julian Moss said: "We are looking at beat boundaries throughout the district with a view to realigning them with local Government wards as part of a preparation for neighbourhood policing."This is something very much in the planning and consultation stages and has not been set in stone or decided upon."We welcome feedback from any council, organisation or member of the public who is interested in the way their town or village is policed.
