THE dates for this year's Wedmore beer festival have been announced. The 2006 event was a huge success, raising over £6,000 for local organisations, including Wedmore Village Hall and Children's Hospice South West. Trevor Prideaux, one of the organisers, said: "The festival came into existence after years of hard work researching ale in numerous different hostelries around the region. It takes many hours of fireside planning and drinking to realise the event."To help raise funds last year, Wedmore landladies raffled their underwear. Angie Sayer, from the New Inn, and Lorraine Williams, from the Swan Inn, auctioned off their smalls to raise money.Beer festivals will be held throughout the year at the following pubs:* April 6-9 and August 24-27, The New Inn, Cross.* May 25-28, Golden Lion, Wrington.* September 14-16, various pubs in Wedmore.* October 26-28, Wrington Vale Rotary Club event at Winscombe RFC.For more details about the event, visit www.wedmorerealale.com
