'Extreme heat' delays recycling and waste collection

A crash on the M5 and the hot weather has led to delays with the recycling and waste collection service this week.
Biffa, North Somerset Council's waste management contractor, was unable to fully complete rounds on Monday and again yesterday (Tuesday).
The council asked households who did not have their black bins and green boxes emptied to leave them out as Biffa tries to clear the backlog.
A council spokesman said: "Incidents on the M5 (on Monday) caused delays to some recycling, garden waste and refuse collections in the north of the area.
"Collection crews were stuck in traffic on the motorway this afternoon and have not been able to complete their rounds."
And yesterday the council said 'extreme heat' had prevented the backlog being cleared, urging people to leave containers out for an additional 24 hours.
