SPORTING Westonians have helped a well-known musician reach his £60,000 fund-raising target.

Milton resident, Peter Warren, has been collecting cash for Cancer Research UK for years and after hitting the £50,000 mark last year, he became determined to raise an extra £10,000 this year.

The Woodcliff Road resident said he was touched when residents at Weston’s Victoria Court, where he works, offered to help him raise more money by doing a sponsored cycle from the resort to Bristol.

The 58-year-old said: “I think it’s great that they wanted to help out and I am very grateful as it has helped me raise £60,000 for a very worthy cause.”

The bike ride took place on Monday and staff and residents from Victoria Court also took collection buckets through the town centre. In total more than £500 was raised.

Pete collected money through raffles and donations at the many gigs he and his late father, Stan, did throughout the town.

Stan, whose voice has been likened to Willy Nelson, would sing alongside Peter, who plays the guitar, at Smiths and New Ocean Hotel in Weston and The Burrington Inn. Pete still continues to play in the town.
