A MASSIVE bike festival held in Cheddar is returning this year after being cancelled in 2006. Cheddar Bikefest, formerly known as Cheddar Challenge, will be held over a weekend in September. The fixture has been running for almost 20 years and is run in conjunction with Bristol Bikefest. On September 29 an eight hour relay endurance event will be held, with a four hour relay event the following day. The course is going back to its former glory, going through Witches Wood. Organisers are also hoping to extend the course up and over the quarry to make the exciting single course track a bit longer. A spokesman said: "The 2007 course will be challenging yet full of fun bits that will make even the most hardened mountain biker smile when they come over the finish line." The base for the event, which is now in its 18th year, will be Broadway House off Axbridge Road near Cheddar. Both days are suitable for established riders as well as newcomers to the sport. The Saturday event will be held for solo, pairs and teams of four, as well as a new 'teams of eight' category. The Sunday race will have the same categories except the one for larger teams. Racing starts at 10am on Saturday and will carry on until 6pm. The Sunday race will start at 10am and carry on until 2pm allowing racers and spectators to journey home.
