A MOTORBIKE ride to raise money for Children's Hospice South West wheeled its way from Sandford to Weston on Sunday.

A group of 40 hardy bikers battled through miserable wet conditions to raise £200 for the charity.

The ride took bikers from Sandford through the Mendips and Cheddar Gorge before arriving at Weston’s Beach Lawns. A raffle was also held.

The event is known as Fred’s Run in honour of of organiser Lyn Cox’s brother, who was nicknamed Fred, who died at Weston Hospicecare six years ago.

Since then she and her husband have helped raise more than £12,000 for Weston Hospicecare before turning their attention to the children’s charity.

Mrs Cox said: “It absolutely poured down which restricted the number of riders who turned up.

“Weston Motorcycle Action Group and Somerset Motorcyle Group also helped marshal along the route. I want to thank everyone who turned up and helped out.”

Next year, the event will be held in April after the past two September dates were blighted by rain.
