n MORE than 600 squares have been knitted by volunteers to produce blankets for orphaned children in Africa.

The project has been organised by the Carlton Centre in Carlton Street, which provides services for adults with mental health problems or those recovering from substance abuse.

The volunteers have been taught to knit and crochet as part of the project, and squares are still being created to be sent abroad.
