PRANKSTERS have damaged one of Portishead's most prominent floral displays.Hooligans managed to lift the wooden boat, which sits in the centre of the roundabout display at the entrance to Portishead on The Sheepway, and dump it on a grass verge. The boat was discovered missing on Saturday morning by members of the Portishead in Bloom committee, who swung into action to get it back in place.Treasurer June Pitts said: "Unfortunately the boat was damaged when it was moved."We had to get a four by four vehicle to tow the boat back onto the island and there were three men holding it to make sure it was transferred back safely."We think it was teenagers who moved it, but how they did we will never know as we had to use a vehicle to tow it back into place."This isn't the first time the Portishead in Bloom's committee has had their displays tampered with.Earlier this month a planter in front of the NatWest bank was shifted along the High Street.Mrs Pitt said: "This vandalism costs the committee time and money. We are all volunteers and have to raise our own funds to carry out the work and improvements in Portishead."We have CCTV in the High Street and I would like to think that the cameras would have picked up who did it. The committee has asked the police to investigate to see if the culprits can be caught.
