CLEVEDON'S defunct BMX track is to reopen later this autumn after lying dormant for a number of years. The track, at Strode Road, was once a popular get-together spot for young bikers but became unkempt and unusable. Now, following the formation of a new BMX club in the town, North Somerset Council is to revamp the riding area on the playing fields. The new club, called Marlens BMX SK8 On, was launched at the Marine Lake Festival earlier this month.Clevedon councillor Chris Blades said: "When the town council opened the skateboard park at the Salthouse Fields, it was quickly obvious that the facility would be used by BMX riders."The BMX track at the Strode Road playing fields was well used at one time but over the years has fallen into a bad state of repair and become redundant."I am very pleased to see it is going to open again as a facility for the young people of Clevedon."Local business Halfords has also stepped in to support the BMX club by donating four brand new bikes. It is hoped the club members will use the bikes to teach younger children how to ride and perform tricks. The reopening of the BMX track is due to take place on October 29.
