THE body of a man was found on a railway line on the outskirts of Weston this morning (Wednesday).
The body, believed to be that of a local man aged 54, was discovered on the line underneath Devils Bridge near to Weston General Hospital at about 6am.
Train services between Weston and Taunton have now resumed after being cancelled earlier in the morning.
Police have closed off Bleadon Hill Road as the British Transport Police (BTP) start an investigation.
A spokesman for the BTP told the Mercury: “We got a call at 6.10am this morning to say that someone had seen a body on the line at Devils Bridge.
“Police attended with the ambulance service, and they found the body of a man beneath the bridge there, believed to be local and in his mid-50s.
“The death is unexplained at the moment, we don’t believe he was hit by a train, we are investigating further.
“The Coroner has been informed and officers are also working to trace the man’s next of kin.”
Train services were cancelled earlier this morning, but normal service has now resumed.
Anyone with information is being asked to contact the BTP on 0800 40 50 40, quoting incident number 65 of June 15.
