The body of missing Weston man Deakon Wilkins has been found, according to his dad.

Andy Wilkins posted a message on Facebook earlier today (Sunday) to confirm police have found his body and to thank everyone who helped to search for him.

In the message he said: “Just to let people know the police have found my son Deakon’s body today.

“I would just like to thank everyone who helped in the search for our boy, we are so so grateful for all your thoughts and help.

“At the moment we want our privacy to be with our family and remember Deakon in happy and good times, but once again I would like to thank you all for your help and wishes of hope.”

Deakon, aged 24, was last seen in Bristol at around 4.30am on January 14 following a night out with friends at Motion nightclub in Avon Street.

Earlier this week, his family spoke to the Weston Mercury to make a desperate plea for more information on his whereabouts.

Avon and Somerset Police confirmed they found the body of a man in the Floating Harbour under the bridge in Oxford Street at noon today.

The body has been recovered from the water and although formal identification has not yet taken place, the family of Deakon Wilkins has been advised.
