INTREPID young designers set out on a chilly Boxing Day to race their inventions in Cheddar Reservoir.
Children from the area built racing yachts made from plastic bottles and designs were judged by members of Bristol Corinthian Yacht Club, whish is based at the reservoir in Axbridge.
Judges awarded marks for innovation, seaworthiness and design before three races were held. Although there was not enough wind for club racing in the conventional crafts usually spotted on the water, there was enough to power along the bottle boats.
The winner of the competition was Oliver Guess. Second place went to Isabel and Georgina Savage. Third place went to Henry Edwards.
