A 10-YEAR-OLD Weston schoolboy took matters into his own hands when he saw a man take off on his scooter and chased him through an industrial estate car park.
Brennan Godwin was visiting his mum Debbie during her shift at Matalan, in Locking Castle District Centre, just before the theft occurred.
The Herons’ Moor pupil headed to Morrisons to get Debbie some sweets and as he was leaving the clothing store he saw a man take his scooter, which he had left outside.
Brennan said: “I shouted at him and told him it was mine, but he just looked at me and scooted off.
“He put the scooter in the back of his car and started to drive off.
“I chased him through the car park. They stopped as the traffic lights turned red. I went after them but then the lights changed and they got away.”
Brennan, of Verbena Way, then called the police and his dad and said he feels even worse because the scooter was a birthday present.
He said: “It was quite scary. I was feeling angry and upset and as I was running I was just hoping I would get it back.”
Debbie, aged 34, said the incident, which occurred on June 18, has affected her son and hopes the thief will be caught.
She said: “The person knew it was a children’s scooter. I was very worried when I heard what happened, you do not know how far they would have gone if he caught up with them.
“Brennan does not get upset easily but this has affected him.”
An Avon and Somerset police spokesman said: “We are investigating a theft at Matalan on June 18, 2013 at 5.10pm.
“The victim shouted at the man who put the scooter in a vehicle and drove off.
“Anyone who witnessed the incident or knows who is responsible should contact the police on 101.”
