BOY racers who abuse Weston beach more than once have been told they could have their cars taken away. The summertime problem of drivers racing around the Uphill end of Weston beach is a recurring issue for police every year. The practice of 'doughnutting', where boy racers drive as fast as they can in circles on the beach, is especially popular. But police warn the offenders will be stopped and handed a warning if they are caught. If they are caught again then police have the power to take the hot-rods' vehicles away for good.PC Steve Wakefield is the beat manager for the Uphill and Whitecross area, which covers the Uphill end of the beach. He said: "This is an annual nuisance aspect we actively try to keep an eye on. During the summer the caravan site next to the beach fills up and if they hear or see anything they tend to call in."We have police officers and police community support officers out there who will stop people if they are using a vehicle in a manner which is causing alarm or distress."We can issue an official warning, if it continues we can take the vehicle away if more warnings are received."This is not something we will just be doing on Weston beach though it is something which is being carried out across the force.
