INCONSIDERATE boy racers, using Clevedon's ring road as a race track, are putting other drivers lives at risk, a councillor is warning.Councillor Carl Francis-Pester says he is becoming increasingly concerned about the speed of drivers using Southern Way as a speed circuitHe is now asking whether better signage can be installed along the ring road - especially on the Southern Way section leading to the seafront - and traffic calming measures installed.Cllr Francis-Pester said: "There seems to be a number of persistent offenders."The other day I was driving along Southern Way when this driver overtook me, going the wrong side of a traffic island."Some are boy racers but others are older drivers and many are using high performance or souped up cars."It would only take a regular driver to pull out of the Strode Road junction and be hit by one of these drivers speeding along the middle of the road to cause a very nasty accident."This road should not be used as a racetrack and I will be reporting my concerns to North Somerset Council and the police."The ring road currently has a 30mph limit and in places slow down signs have been installed.Clevedon beat officer PC Dave Hughes said: "The speed of traffic along the ring road is monitored and there are three designated Speedwatch locations on that route."The area is also targeted by the Camera Safety Partnership."Anyone caught speeding risks points on their driving licence and a fine." North Somerset Council spokesman Nick Yates said: "This is an enforcement issue and an issue which should be tackled by the police and the safety camera partnership."The Highway Code says that on road where there are street lights a 30mph limit applies unless signs say otherwise."If people have concerns about bad driving, then they should report it to the police.
