POPULAR TV actor John Challis visited Burnham's RNLI station to meet the lifeboat volunteers last week.

Well known for his role as Boycie in the TV programme Only Fools and Horses, John has starred in this year’s Playhouse pantomime Aladdin as the evil scheming sorcerer.

John was met by Graham Wills, the station chairman, and DLA Rodney Southwell. On Friday gifts were exchanged, books autographed, and John was given a tour of the station.

RNLI helmsmen Nick Prout and Stuart Lacey were on hand to talk about the lifeboats and their characteristics.

John said: “I am always full of admiration for the brave RNLI volunteers who launch 24/7 and if necessary risk their lives saving others. I find it very humbling when comparing their experiences to mine.”

John also spent time signing a poster and dedicating copies of his book to the various RNLI crew and fundraising volunteers.
