Part of Weston-super-Mare’s Birnbeck Pier will be ripped down after a council vote this afternoon (Wednesday).

The pier’s north jetty, which was damaged by storms earlier this year, was deemed irreparable by North Somerset Council’s planning committee and the jetty’s walkway and trestle piers will now be demolished by owner CNM Estates.

You can read how the meeting developed by reading our blog here – and for a full reaction to the decision, pick up a copy of next week’s Mercury.
