5.12.07 - 12.30pm - A MAN has received serious stab wounds after disturbing a burglar who broke into his house while he was sleeping.
The incident happened at around 2am today (Wed) at a sheltered housing bungalow in Chestnut Close, Congresbury.
The 62-year-old awoke to find the intruder in his bedroom.
The victim then struggled with the offender and received two stab wounds to the chest. The offender then fled the scene.
Emergency services were called and the victim is now in a critical condition at Weston General Hospital.
Detectives are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.
The offender was a white male, 5ft 6ins tall, of stocky build, with light-coloured hair. He was wearing a light-coloured top with long sleeves.
Extensive police enquiries were still being carried out around the address today (Wed), but the knife involved has not yet been recovered.
