POLICE have sealed off Kewstoke as they probe reports that a woman's body has been found in a home in the village.

Dozens of officers have closed roads leading to Crookes Lane, where the woman was found, while the air ambulance is also on the scene.

A second person - a man - is in critical condition. Air ambulance paramedics are working to save him in Kewstoke Village Green, and he is expected to be airlifted to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol.

Police have detained a man in connection with the incident, and have closed the area to traffic. Neighbours are also being stopped from returning to their homes, as police say the incident is still ‘live’.

The Mercury understands this is due to a build-up of gas in the property at the centre of the drama.

One villager told the Mercury: “The village seems to be on lockdown. No-one knows what’s going on.

“We have to take lots of diversions before you can even get into the village.”

A police spokesman said: “Police were called to an incident in Kewstoke at about midday today.

“The body of a woman was discovered inside a property in Crookes Lane and police sealed off the area.

“One man has been detained.

“Another man has been injured and remains in a critical condition. He has been airlifted to hospital.”

Forensics examiners are now on-site as police try to piece together the events leading up to the woman’s body being found.

More to follow.
