SIX North Somerset post offices have been earmarked for closure, according to unofficial reports.

The branches which are rumoured to be on the hit list are in Upper Church Road and Severn Road in Weston, Ebdon Road in Worle and ones in Kewstoke, Loxton and Uphill.

Liberal Democrat prospective parliamentary candidate for Weston, Mike Bell, has helped to launch a campaign to save the post offices in the area via www.savewestonpostoffices.org.uk

The Post Office is expected to officially name those branches which face closure next week and start a formal consultation process.

The Government announced last year that many Royal Mail outlets could be shut down amid plans to do away with branches in rural and urban deprived areas.

Last week, Winscombe, Brent Knoll, Yatton and Locking post offices all had letters drop through their doors saying they are not at immediate risk and that their futures look more certain.
