BRIGHTLY-COLOURED blooms filled the room at Worle Century Club as an annual event got underway.

The venue held its flower show on Saturday, with 146 entries from 23 members.

Despite the bad weather the show was better than expected, but growing onions and lettuces seemed to be a particular problem this year.

The NVS silver medal was awarded to Rob Kerton for his exceptional entry for three large leeks.

Weston mayor David Hitchins and mayoress Carol Hitchins were guests of the club in Mendip Avenue, with the mayor presenting the trophies.

Later in the evening the entries were auctioned by the club’s president Sharon Marshall, raising a total of £122 for the charity fund.

The trophy winners were as follows:

NVS silver medal: Rob Kerton; Century Points Cup: Geoff Haines; Tom Edwards Rose Bowl: Ken Bradley; Rose Weadon Mem.Trophy: Sharon Marshall; Gladioli Cup: Tony Kellaway; George Bisdee Mem.Trophy: Ken Bradley; Dolly Pitt Mem.Trophy: Joe Thomas; Tony Pitt Trophy: Rob Kerton; Century Cup: Geoff Haines; Ray Cliff Begonia Cup: Bert Filer; Stan Smith Shield: John Robbins.
