Parts of the M5 have been closed tonight (Tuesday) because of a significant problem with the road surface.
The southbound carriageway has had two lanes blocked off to allow repairwork to be carried out.
The affected area is between Portishead (junction 19) and Clevedon (junction 20).
A Highways England spokesman said: “ Drivers are advised that two lanes of the M5 are closed southbound between junctions 19 and 20 for emergency repairs.
“A defect in the carriageway surface was reported late this afternoon and will need to be repaired before the lanes are safe to reopen.
“Highways England is working to ensure the repairs are carried out as quickly as possible and the lanes will be reopened later this evening.
“Drivers are advised of delays in the area and to plan their journeys and listen to the latest traffic reports.”
