A building which supported people recovering from addiction could be transformed back into a residential home.

Chestnut House, in Weston-super-Mare’s Oldmixon Road, was used by Broadway Lodge as a day care centre for addiction treatment.

But North Somerset Council withdrew the centre’s funding a year ago and the building has since been used as office space.

Broadway Lodge has now applied to convert it into a private residence.

Its development director, Peter Smith, said it was a ‘great shame’ when funding was stopped, and added: “It was a well-used and well-respected place and the local recovery community found it hugely beneficial.”

He said planning permission will give Broadway Lodge the option to put the building on the open market.
