THESE cheery faces could soon be a thing of the past as a branch of The Brownies may be closing its doors.

More than 100 young girls from across Sedgemoor enjoyed a masked ball last week, but one pack will soon lose its brown owl leader.

The 2nd Cheddar Brownies current leader, Vicky Sweet, has announced she will be leaving at the end of the year.

But despite asking for volunteers to run the pack since January, no one has come forward.

Now Vicky is worried the Cheddar branch will have to close if no one else steps into her shoes.

She said: "My daughter Melissa has offered to help take over the group but as she is only 17 she will still need an adult to supervise.

"I have been doing this job for 21 years and not being able to do anything on Tuesdays for all that time was getting a bit much.

"Having said that, the girls are a really lively, friendly bunch.

"There are currently 17 brownies in the group but because there is a possibility it will be closing, we haven't taken on any new girls this year."

The new brown owl would be required to oversee meetings on Tuesdays from 6.15pm-7.45pm in the guide hut next to Cheddar First School. The youngsters range in age from seven to 10 years old.

Vicky added: "The leader needs to be there to supervise activities to help them get their badges for things they wouldn't normally do at school.

"A lot of the badges are for basic home skills like ironing but we also do outdoor things like tobogganing."

Anyone interested in the role is urged to call Vicky on 01278 445054 or 07708 625214.
