BOSSES at Weston General Hospital are celebrating success in infection control after the coldest winter for a decade.There was only one outbreak of the winter vomiting bug, Norovirus, which did not begin until February and was under control in three weeks.Only three wards at the hospital were affected.Some NHS trusts battled against the virus from November to March.Chief executive Mark Gritten said: "Infection control is one of our highest priorities and our infection control team, ward staff and housekeepers all deserve credit for this success. However, we could not have remained free of the virus so successfully without the support of our patients and their visitors."We appealed to them not to visit if they had symptoms and to use the alcohol gel we provide before entering and leaving wards and they heeded our advice."The trust also had its busiest week ever for emergency admissions from February 27, with 256 patients being brought into the Grange Road hospital.
