The Burlington Street museum in Weston-super-Mare is undergoing a £1million refurbishment.

Building work has begun, and museum staff are already selecting objects for the new gallery displays and deciding how they will be arranged and mounted.

The project is being organised by Weston Town Council. Its clerk Malcolm Nicholson said: “Planning and fundraising for this project has been a long slog.

“Having the builders actually now working on site is a major milestone on the way to a fantastic new museum that Weston can be proud of.”

The museum is expected to open in 2017, but the service will be hosting a history weekend on the Beach Lawns on August 20-21 this year.
