DISTRACTION burglars are targeting elderly residents in Yatton and Wrington.Police are appealing for witnesses to two incidents which happened on February 5 and which they believe may be connected.The first happened in High Street, Yatton, when a man called upon a 98-year-old woman claiming that he was from the water board. Once inside her property, the man asked the woman to turn on the kitchen taps. As she did so she noticed a second man in the house. After a brief discussion between the men, she was asked if she could change £20. The woman then became suspicious and asked the men to leave.The second incident occurred in Lawrence Lane, Wrington, when a man called on an 83-year-old woman, claiming he needed to check her water supply. The woman was asked to turn the taps on, during which she noticed a second man appear. Again, after a short discussion between the men, they left the property.The men were white and in their mid-20s. The first was about 5ft 7ins tall and was wearing jeans. The second was shorter, had blond hair and was also wearing jeans.Anyone with information can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
