IT WILL cost people double to be buried in Cheddar after the parish council hiked up its charges.Burial fees for parishioners will rise from £50 to £100 and exclusive burial rights will go up from £50 to £150 from next month.The parish council says the fee increases for the Sharpham Road cemetery are needed to match charges in neighbouring parishes.Parish chairman Peter Lythgoe said: "We put the charges up after comparing the charges to local parishes."The rises seem sharp as we have not put the charges up in five or six years."If the shoe was on the other foot I would not necessarily welcome the rises, but they are in line with other parish councils."The price of headstones will rise from £50 to £90, memorial tablets from £20 to £50 and exclusive internment rights have jumped from £20 to £100.Babies under one-year-old cost £11 to bury, but that will now be a free service.
