Four people will receive civic awards to acknowledge the work they do in their communities.

Burnham-on-Sea mayor Bill Hancock has announced the four winners ahead of the Burnham and Highbridge civic service on September 16.

Former councillor Dennis Davey, Burnham In Bloom’s Jo Brown, RNLI operations manager Matt Davies and town crier Alastair Murray will receive prizes.

The winners were chosen by the town council after public nominations took place in July.

Alastair has been town crier since 2013 and often accompanies the mayor to various events during the year.

Jo was nominated for her work as children’s co-ordinator for the flower group for the past 13 years, while Matt has put in many hours of his time volunteering to run the RNLI centre in Pier Street.

Cllr Hancock said: “We have chosen four people who have played important roles in both towns for many years, I am pleased with our choices and look forward to the service.”
