The council chambers will get a £6k revamp.

Burnham and Highbridge Town Council's chambers will receive a £6,000 revamp after plans for the project were approved last week.

Around £6,200 of the authority’s fabric and maintenance budget will be spent on a range of improvements to the chambers, in Jaycroft Road.

These include a high-tech ceiling-mounted projector screen and new microphones and speakers.

Councillor Martin Cox, who is chairman of the council’s staffing and resources committee, said: “We are frequently told by the public attending our meetings it is difficult to hear what is being said during debates due to the poor sound system.”

There are also plans to change the layout in the room.

Cllr Cox added: “It is also felt councillors don’t engage enough because they currently sit with their backs to the audience. We are looking to correct that.”
