Children rode BMX bikes for three hours as part of a sponsored challenge in Burnham-on-Sea.

Burnham BMX Club organised the event, which saw 14 young riders take part to see how many laps they could do in the time.

Club secretary Michelle Fryer said: “The children did amazingly and managed to complete a total of 848 laps, equal to 169 miles.

“Most adults would struggle to do the mileage the youngest member achieved.”

The ride, held at the track in Marine Parade, raised money for a new gazebo, where children will be able to get shelter on race days.

The child who completed the most laps managed 91 loops of the track, the equivalent of 18.2 miles.

Each participant received a medal and certificate for their achievements, before re-fueling by tucking into a barbecue.

The club has 40 members aged five to 30 years old and is open on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
