A woman who injured her ankle while walking on Burnham-on-Sea beach has been rescued by volunteers this afternoon (Thursday).

The Coastguard Rescue Team was alerted to a woman in serious pain at around 2pm, after she twisted her ankle and was unable to walk.

A passer-by called 999 and asked for the coastguards, who later handed her over to the ambulance service.

A coastguard spokesman said: “The couple did say how grateful they were, as they did not know about the coastguards so did not call for help.

“Knowing who to call in an emergency may save your life.”

If you are ever in difficulty along the coast, call 999 and ask for the coastguards.
