Burnham-on-Sea Coastguard Rescue Team has been called to help someone threatening to jump from the Town Jetty.

The crew was mobilised at about 2.30pm yesterday (Thursday) after reports of a despondent person threatening to enter the water from the jetty.

RNLI lifeguards and the BARB search and rescue team also attended to provide water rescue support while police spoke to the person.

A spokesman for the coastguard rescue team said: “With concern for the person’s wellbeing paramount to all, these various services stayed in the background and let the police take the lead and talk to the person.

“This was the right strategy as they were soon able to escort them away from danger and back to the safety and support of their family.

“This was a great outcome for all concerned and very reassuring that there was a strong rescue team ready to react if required.”
