The outgoing chairman of Sedgemoor District Council has handed his nominated Burnham charity a final cheque as his role comes to an end.

Councillor Ian Dyer chose Burnham Sea Cadets and has handed the group a cheque for £500 which has been raised over the past year.

He said: “I chose the sea cadets as my charity as I was very impressed at the number of events I attended where the cadets carried out stewarding duties. They were very professional.”

Cllr Dyer then visited the cadets’ base at the Bay Centre in Cassis Close, and thought it would benefit from being updated with the money.

It will also help a number of other groups in the town which also use the centre.

Mike Cresswell will now take over from Cllr Dyer and was sworn in at the council’s annual meeting last week.

The vice chairman of the council will be Cllr Paul Herbert.
