A ‘much-welcomed’ donation of £800 has been made to the Burnham-on-Sea Area Youth (BAY) Centre.

Sheila Coda, a member of Somerset Bridge Association, presented the centre, in Cassis Close, with a cheque which will be used for the building’s maintenance.

Sheila elected to share the donation between the centre and the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.

The centre is home to many groups, including Burnham Camera Club, two boxing clubs and Gateway.

BAY centre chair, Mike Lang, said: “Our committee has a policy of constant improvement, and this excellent gift will help us shake off the sands of time in our 52 year-old building.

“This donation is much needed and we will ensure it is used effectively on the building’s upkeep.

“This is a community building run as a charity and staffed solely by volunteers, so all the monetary help we get is vital.”
