Bus service cuts on hospital route frustrates passenger

First Bus has been criticised for a timetable change affecting services to Weston General Hospital.

Passenger Hedi Wright told the Mercury the company’s decision to make the number 5 service hourly – rather than every 30 minutes – has caused a major headache.

First says the change comes after a ‘customer review’ but Heidi is unimpressed by the new timetable which came into effect at the weekend.

She said its ‘claims’ over public demand do not stack up, as passengers after a hospital appointment can now be left for an hour waiting for a bus.

A First spokesman said: “The frequency of buses has been reduced from every 30 minutes to every 60 minutes throughout the day.

“In addition, the majority of journeys will be extended beyond Uphill and the hospital to either Hutton or Bleadon.

“Those journeys extending to Bleadon will operate as service 5A.”
