An application to knock down a country pub and turn it into a 36-bedroom hotel has been refused by North Somerset Council’s planning committee.
Plans had been submitted to the council to demolish The Bungalow Inn, in Butcombe near Bristol Airport, and replace it with a hotel and 93 car parking spaces.
However, councillors decided at a meeting on August 10 that the proposals were inappropriate for the site’s greenbelt location and the amount of car parking spaces was too large for a 36-bedroom hotel.
Councillors also raised fears the parking spaces could be used for unauthorised airport parking and said the roads close to the site were too narrow for hotel traffic.
Wrington ward councillor Deborah Yamanaka said: “I do consider this to be against our policy. I do believe the highway implications have not been looked at in sufficient detail and that should be another reason for refusal.”
