A Weston accounting company held a coffee morning and art auction last week at its new offices to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Alan Port, an artist from the area, painted four pictures for the company which were on display last Friday and are still available for auction.
Kevin Dodd, client manager at Alanbrookes, told the Mercury this was the ‘perfect’ way for the firm to get to know people in its new town, and businesses, while also doing something for a good cause.
Mr Dodd said: “It went really well. There were a lot of people who turned up and we even had people ordering cakes and we ended up delivering them.
“Our auction is still ongoing, but the art did attract attention so I am pretty happy.
“As a business we have a lot of charity involvement and Macmillan is one that everyone can relate to.
“The coffee mornings are really popular and it is difficult to meet people and other businesses when you come to a new place, so this was perfect.
“We just wanted to do something different and something to help others.
“It was to get our name out there but also to do something good and show people that we are good people.”
Mr Dodd told the Mercury the total raised from the coffee morning was around £200 but with the additional art still to be sold, Macmillan could be in line for an even bigger pay cheque.
Alanbrookes is also currently in pre-communications with Somerset’s RSPCA centre to discuss potential sponsorship.
