A SUPERMARKET giant wants to build a petrol station, just three months after it shelved plans for one in the face of public opposition.
Asda wants to add an eight-space filling station to its Caxton Road car park in Highbridge.
The move will see 30 parking spaces lost but has drawn road safety concerns from residents and the town council. However, Asda is confident these have been resolved by switching the proposed exit and entrance to the petrol station.
The plans also confirm there will be no kiosk and motorists will have to pay at the pump.
Sedgemoor District Council has received a mixed response over the plans so far, with some hoping a petrol station will see increased competition, while others fear it is too close to people’s homes.
