a seafront pub finally flung open its new-look doors to the public this week following a major 2.4million revamp.

The Cabot Court Hotel, owned by JD Wetherspoon, has provided 100 new jobs and, before it opened on Tuesday, 1,600 lucky invite-only guests were treated to free drinks and meals over the weekend.

Formerly known as the Cabot 5 Bars, in Knightstone Road, Weston, the venue has undergone an extensive refurbishment.

The hotel, which occupies four floors, has 21 bedrooms, four of which are family bedrooms, five twin and 12 double bedrooms.

The building’s Regency features, including a cast-iron staircase, have been enhanced and restored.

Photos, local history artwork and information boards relating to the history and characters of the area are displayed in the pub, as well as a commissioned brass bust of Sir Arthur Stanley Eddington and a 3D sculpted ship.

Manager Chris Partridge said: “Myself and my team are looking forward to welcoming customers into the pub and hotel and we are confident that customers will be impressed by the transformation of the building.”

The hotel was named after the Italian-born navigator John Cabot, who settled in the nearby port of Bristol in the late 15th century.

The new-look, wheelchair-accessible pub, which is on two floors, has two bars and a dance floor, as well as a beer terrace to the side and a pavement cafe-style area to the front of the premises, where smoking is permitted.
