More than 50 new jobs are set to be created at a North Somerset construction firm.
The news comes following a significant investment by Bristol-based lightweight construction manufacturer, Etex, in its new plasterboard manufacturing facility in Easton-in-Gordano.
The 57,000sqm plant is expected to double production capacity for the manufacturer’s Siniat brand, which already employs 506 people in the region, and will create job opportunities across a range of departments, including manufacturing, operations, and production.
The business is also keen to encourage more young people to enter the sector with its tailor-made Operator Apprenticeship scheme, designed to meet future skills requirements.
Neil Shaw, UK country manager at Etex, said: "Investment in our facility goes hand-in-hand with investment in our people. Our teammates are key to helping us meet the growing demand for plasterboard across the UK and in ensuring the new facility is a success.
"We are known for partnering with our local communities and providing opportunities.
"Previously, this has included supporting the Ministry of Justice's rehabilitation programme for prisoners at HMP Cardiff with Willmott Dixon, our cross-department apprenticeship opportunities, and of course our ongoing Operator Apprenticeship scheme.
"As we expand our facility, we’re eager to work with local people and give them the opportunity to grow with us."
A recent employee engagement survey by Etex Group found more than nine in 10 (93%) respondents feel that Etex cares about its people, with over four in five (83%) stating that they are able to balance their work and personal responsibilities.
The state-of-the-art expansion will have a core focus on sustainability, including contributing £10,000 to improve pedestrian and cycle access to the site for employees.
Investment has also been made to implement a rainwater harvesting system which will save the plant up to 1.7 million litres of water annually.
Installation points for solar PV and electric car charging stations will also be fitted, with the end-ambition of a fully electric forklift fleet.
This follows the establishment of Etex’s Green Team of 30 specialists from around the world, who came together to produce Etex’s first CSR report.
