ONE of North Somerset's biggest holiday resorts has been put up for sale - with a price tag of £6million.

Sand Bay Leisure Park – formerly owned by renowned holiday chain Pontins – is one of five sites being offloaded by owner Martyn Leisure.

The firm is selling up in the wake of the death of its founder Martyn Harrison.

Sector specialist Colliers International has now been charged with marketing the award-winning resort, and the firm’s experts say the site’s 2012 turnover of £6.2million will make it an attractive investment to would-be buyers.

Colliers’ hotels director Simon Wells said: “The leisure park is being marketed following the death of Martyn Harrison, the charismatic owner of the resort, who passed away in April 2012.

“The trustees have decided to sell both Sand Bbay and the other four hotels in the group, three in Dorset and one on the outskirts of London. They are well worth a look.

“Not only does it offer a great opportunity for a new buyer to benefit from the tremendous profit generated by 55,000 guests per year, but it has a long-term future with a significant development plan supported by North Somerset Council.”

The Beach Road attraction occupies 17 acres and comprises 330 chalet-style rooms and a ballroom for 550, alongside what Colliers describes as ‘possibly the largest restaurant in North Somerset’.

Mr Wells says the camp ‘focuses on top quality entertainment’ and has built a strong reputation as a provider of short-term leisure breaks.

Colliers – which has offices in 62 countries – is now offering the camp around the world, and says in its brief: “Sand Bay itself is a charming inlet with a wide sandy beach and is just north of Weston-super-Mare, one of the most iconic British seaside resorts.”

Mr Wells added: “This is a cracking opportunity for the right type of operator to take on a very successful business.”
